I would first like to thank you for taking the time to visit my site. This project has been a long time in the making. I also want to thank Cameron Photography for helping me realize my vision. My name is Matthew Cena, born to parents John and Carol on October 28, 1980 in the small city of Beverly, Massachusetts. I am the second youngest of five boys, so growing up presented itself as a competitive experience as each of us was always out to better the others’ performance. I began lifting weights in my basement at age 11 on a hand-me-down bench from one of my brothers. I watched my brother train and grow over time. I was determined to get the same results and I’ve been training ever since. I then was fully inspired by an episode of FLEX Magazine workout, which Shawn Ray and Boyer Coe were hosting. I watched in amazement at the physiques that these two possessed. From that moment on I had the VCR set to record every episode. I would take notes on the workouts, gathering all the information and pointers I could. I begged my mother every time I saw a FLEX magazine to buy one and in no time I had my own subscription. I was now equipped with the “knowledge” I needed, I just needed to find a real gym with real equipment. This search ended when a classmate asked if I wanted to start training with him at the gym his brother belonged to. I jumped at the opportunity and, at the age of 12, traveled to Hard Nock’s Gym in Amesbury, Massachusetts for the first time. I met Dave Nock, the gym owner, and here began his extensive training techniques and guidance that introduced me to numerous aspects of lifting. After a summer of training and football season over, I returned armed with my “knowledge,” completing 2 ½ hour workouts utilizing every possible exercise. I got good results, but as a teenager training, most programs do work, it’s just a matter of what works most efficiently. My training evolved over the years from traveling to several different gyms and I even moved out to Venice, California at the age of 18 pursuing the Iron Dream. Now living in Florida and pursuing the Iron Dream more intensely than ever, I plan on someday winning the NPC Team Universe. This website will be a chronicle of my training and diet, accompanied by photos and video of that journey. Once again, I thank you for visiting the site and showing your support for mattcena.com. Thank You -Matt Cena-
